Representing CAN-Myanmar, our Chair, Cicer (Saw Zin Maung Soe), recently joined an impactful panel discussion organized by Rainbow Railroad on closing the protection gap and shaping the future of LGBTQI+ rights.

Moderated by Latoya Nugent (Chief Communications & Advocacy Officer, Rainbow Railroad), the panel featured distinguished advocate voices, including Graeme Reid (UN Independent Expert on SOGI), Swathi Sekhar (Director of Protection Initiatives, Rainbow Railroad), Brigitte Baltazar Lujano (Program Coordinator, Al Otro Lado), and Eric Ssali (Co-Chair, Queer Forced Displacement Network).
During the session, CAN-Myanmar emphasized that local grassroots organizations must be recognized not merely as implementing partners, but as central leaders in designing protection frameworks and setting priorities.

“Local LGBTQI+ organisations should not only be treated as implementing partners. They should have a meaningful role in designing protection responses, setting priorities, and shaping solutions. Networks like the Queer Forced Displacement Network should lead these critical dialogues with UNHCR, protection actors, and local organisations.”
— Cicer (Saw Zin Maung Soe), Founder & Chair of CAN-Myanmar

We remain committed to amplifying the voices of displaced queer communities and driving sustainable, community-led protection responses.
