Building Change Through Collaboration

C.A.N-Myanmar believes that sustainable human rights progress is achieved through collaboration, solidarity, and collective action.

Since its establishment, C.A.N-Myanmar has built strong relationships with LGBTQIA+ movements, civil society organizations, human rights defenders, community leaders, and international partners.

Through these networks, we strengthen collective advocacy, share knowledge and resources, support community-led solutions, and promote human rights, equality, and inclusive participation in Myanmar.

International and Regional Networks

ILGA World and ILGA Asia

C.A.N-Myanmar became the second organization from Myanmar to join the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA World and ILGA Asia) in September 2015.

Through this engagement, C.A.N-Myanmar contributes to regional and global LGBTQIA+ human rights movements, shares experiences, and strengthens international solidarity for equality and justice.

In 2017, the Chairperson of C.A.N-Myanmar’s Board of Consultants was elected as a Board Member of ILGA Asia, representing Myanmar’s LGBTQIA+ movement at the regional level.

National Civil Society Networks

Election Observers Network Mandalay (E.O.N-M)

C.A.N-Myanmar is an initiative and founding member organization of the Election Observers Network Mandalay (E.O.N-M) since 2014.

Through this network, C.A.N-Myanmar has contributed to strengthening civic participation, democratic awareness, and inclusive engagement in electoral processes.

Mandalay Civil Society Network

Since 2015, C.A.N-Myanmar has collaborated with the Mandalay Civil Society Network, a network connecting approximately 75 local civil society organizations.

Through this collaboration, C.A.N-Myanmar works alongside diverse civil society actors to strengthen community participation, knowledge sharing, and collective action.

LGBTQIA+ Movement and Advocacy Networks

Coalition of LGBTQIA Organizations for the Electoral Sector in the Democratic Transition of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (CLOES-DTRUM)

C.A.N-Myanmar is a founding and leading member organization of CLOES-DTRUM, established in early 2017.

The coalition was created to promote meaningful participation, representation, and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ communities in Myanmar’s electoral and democratic processes.

Myanmar LGBTQIA Human Rights Watch Forum

C.A.N-Myanmar is a founding organization of the Myanmar LGBTQIA Human Rights Watch Forum, established in October 2022.

The Forum brings together LGBTQIA+ organizations and activists to monitor, document, and report human rights violations affecting LGBTQIA+ communities following the February 2021 military coup.

The Forum works to strengthen:

  • Human rights documentation;
  • Evidence-based advocacy;
  • Public awareness;
  • International engagement;
  • Accountability and transitional justice efforts.
