The Myanmar LGBTQIA Human Rights Watch Forum, established in October 2022, represents a groundbreaking initiative that unites 15 committed LGBTQIA organizations along with numerous diligent activists within Myanmar. As the inaugural forum composed of in-country members, it meticulously monitors the urgent LGBTQIA human rights issues that have arisen in the wake of the Myanmar military coup in February 2021.
The forum’s principal aim is to promote LGBTQIA rights and facilitate transitional justice for Myanmar’s LGBTQIA community, which has encountered considerable challenges in recent years. To this end, the forum actively partakes in extensive data collection and documentation of human rights abuses and violations inflicted upon LGBTQIA individuals in post-coup Myanmar.
These vital findings are methodically reported to a range of stakeholders, including the wider public, policymakers, decision-makers, and other essential entities involved in the advocacy of human rights. In light of the precarious circumstances confronting its members, the forum has opted not to disclose the contact details of its members, underscoring the necessity to prioritize their safety and security during these trying times.
